My Oily Day

Whether you’ve landed here via my Instagram post, Facebook post or Pinterest.. WELCOME! I’m so happy you were curios enough to pop over to see how things run around here. First and foremost, this blog will be a place for us to share a little bit of the “goings-on” in our lives. We have lots of family that live near, far, and VERY far so a place to share some updates on life, photos dumps, + a few of my favorite things thrown into the mix was in order. Feel free to check back in on occasion to see what we’re up to.

SO, I’m very new to blogging but not new at all to the world of blogging or the world of essential oils. I actually found Young Living via my favorite blog and had already been a reader of hers for over 5 years. She became a trusted resource for all things motherhood, home decor + style, and drinking games. So when she began to share about essential oils it was natural that I needed to know more.

Fast forward over a year and here we are- you can find YLs products in every room of our home and we couldn’t be more proud to share them with our friends and family. You probably ended up here via social media (if not, bear with me- I may digress often but you’ll catch a few important points along the way) so let me get to it…

My Oily Day.

CONSISTENCY

Consistency is key. In order to make life a little easier for myself in the AM I fill my living room diffuser before I go to bed.

5 drop Stress Away

4 drops Peppermint

Peppermint is stimulating which is perfect to wake everyone up and get us moving in the morning + Stress Away is soothing to start the day off on the right foot. My alarm goes off at 7am M-F and Joe’s goes off at 7:15. Harper is awake somewhere in the middle and I go in to get her at 7:30. She happily hangs out if she’s awake before us so I get some time in the morning to shower and get myself together before Momming.

MORNING ROUTINE

I’ve just received the Art Gentle Cleanser in my monthly wellness box so I’ll share my thoughts on it in a few weeks, but for now I will share that I use

2 drops Frankincense

Dime sized amount of Jojoba Oil

on my face every morning as a moisturizer + treatment. I use a little more jojoba oil at night because I have pretty dry winter skin. I have noticed the BIGGEST difference by adding Frank and Jojoba out of any skin care product I’ve ever used. That’s saying A LOT for me because being an acne sufferer I have tried them all. I also roll Frankincense neat (undiluted) directly onto any blemishes or fine lines. Thanks to Frankie my complexion is more even and glowy, my blemishes are few and far between, and I am actively fighting aging.

TOOTHPASTE

Sensitive subject for me because you’re going to think I’m weird but I don’t like the taste of toothpaste. SHOCKING, I know. I’m not a mint fan. Moving on. So, I switched to YL’s toothpaste which is infused with peppermint but its SO subtle that it doesn’t bother me in the slightest. I add

 1 drop Tangerine or Orange

directly onto my brush and get to work. It promotes a whiter smile and tastes DELISH. Harper also uses YL Kids toothpaste because she eats more of it than she is supposed to so at least I don’t have to worry about the crap thats in store bought one. BUT that’s another post for another day.

VITAMINS & SUPPLEMENTS

I will NOT, I repeat, WILL NOT take a daily vitamin if it is not in plain sight every day. None of this store it in the pantry stuff. I have to see it sitting there, in view every single day if its making its way into my system. So how else do we accomplish this but with a cute basket & cute paper or metal straws to throw in my drink. Guys, the environment….

Super B

(taken directly from Young Living)

Combined with Nutmeg essential oil and bioavailable chelated minerals such as magnesium, manganese, selenium, and zinc, Super B not only assists in maintaining healthy energy levels, but it also supports mood and cardiovascular and cognitive function.

CLEANING

Have you ever cleaned your bathroom and felt that all too familiar “I can’t breathe” feeling after spraying the -insert bathroom fixture here- with that foamy stuff? Yea, me too. So I started to wonder what was in that to make me feel so breathless and lightheaded. Turns out it’s NOT GOOD. WTF. This was one of the first things we ditched and switched. Cleaning products.

We now use Thieves Cleaner, for everything. I mean that… everything. Floors, windows, countertops, cutting boards, high chair, carpet spot treatment, dusting, sanitizing, toilets, sinks, tub, shower, dog bowls, even spot treatment on stubborn clothing stains. E.V.E.R.Y.T.H.I.N.G

It’s also highly concentrated and gets diluted 1:32 so 1 bottle has lasted us almost a year.

1 capful of Thieves Cleaner in a 8oz glass spray bottle topped with tap water

You can also make a few other cleaning DIYs with Thieves Cleaner, Lemon oil + baking soda for the stubborn stuff. The Thieves line of cleaning products includes Dish soap, Hand soap, Laundry Detergent, Waterless Hand Purifier & Surface Spray, Surface Wipes, Dishwasher Powder, + Fruit & Veggie Soak and Spray.

BEDTIME ROUTINE

I am a morning shower person. I need to wake up and feel refreshed in the AM to start my day on the right foot. So before bed I spray my hair with my Long Hair Don’t Care spray to support healthy hair growth. Post-partum hair loss is real, so is getting older, as well as hair loss related to major life changes (stress, change in eating habits, lack of minerals, vitamins + supplements). I spray like a wild woman and comb it through. Washing it out in the AM.

Long Hair Don’t Care

10 drops Lavender

10 drops Cedarwood

10 drops Rosemary

1 pump fractionated coconut oil

topped with distilled water

Bedtime diffuser blend. I have struggled with sleep since I was pregnant with Harper and could no longer sleep on my stomach. This snowballed into restless sleep through my pregnancy, late night feedings with a newborn, insane night sweats, a baby awake due to teething and here we are nearly 2 1/2 years later and I was still restless at night regardless of whether Harper was keeping me up or not.

Que Essential Oils.

We tried a few different blends and had some good nights rest but nothing really sealed the deal for me. Until now.

This blend is GOLDEN.

4 drops Frankincense

3 drops Lavender

2 drops Orange or Tangerine

I fall asleep quickly and wake up when my alarm goes off (unless I am summoned from the other room by a little one). I feel like I just hibernated for the entire winter. I am SO refreshed in the morning. It is GLORIOUS.

If we’re being honest this is a drop in the bucket as to all the ways we use essential oils in our daily routine but it’s a great starting point for curiosity sake. I’ll be sharing more specific topics in the future so if there is something you’re interested in please don’t hesitate to let me know.
