Christmas in July

Christmas in July was something I wanted to do with Harper after last summer and the long days that come with July. Just a nice way to break up a string of hot and humid days here in NJ. As much as I love the holidays, I’m definitely not wishing away the rest of the summer or Autumn. You already know how I feel about the coming months.

We stared off our day, naturally, with Polar Express and a tantrum. Harper is freakishly obsessed with 2 shows on Netflix so when I told her we were going to watch a movie, she lost it. Despite the fact that Polar Express takes place on a train and she LOVES TRAINS. Moving on…

Next up was The Santa Clause and another shit show tantrum. Eventually she went and climbed into my bed and asked for Kazoops on Netflix. I gave in. Whatever. Nap time came and she PASSED OUT. Nearly a three hour nap, which was glorious for both of us, and she was a different child when she woke up.

We made cookies (disclaimer: by “made cookies” I mean we separated Pillsbury dough squares and she added some sprinkles). Total Mom-win. After sweeping up 98% of said sprinkles off the floor before the dog ate them I had to find a way to entertain her while we waited for the cookies to bake. So smoothies and a dance party did the trick. Joe made it home just in time for the cookies to come out of the oven and I breathed my daily sigh of relief. Our days are always more fun when he’s around.

He entertained my crazy by watching Home Alone and we wrapped up the day with dinner (Soup + Grilled Cheese!), bath time, and 30 minutes of a movie (non-christmas related, heh) to wind down. The only thing this day was missing is alcohol. Who celebrates the holidays without alcohol. NOT US!

Happy end of July, friends! Which means its almost August, which means it’s basically almost Autumn. Same thing, no?
