Lighting Updates in the Girls Bedrooms and Some of my Favorites Lighting Finds.

We have lived in this house for nearly four years and are just now getting around to updating light fixtures. We have been busy making plenty of other necessary updates but I think this was something we should have done sooner. The impact is just that good.

I think if I had to do it over again I would have had the house painted, the lighting replaced and then done door knobs and light switches. Seems silly but all three of those are high impact items when you’re trying to update an outdated home. Also, they’re all fairly budget friendly and DIY-able!

The Search Begins

When I started pinning lighting ideas for the girls bedrooms I fell in LOVE with this gorgeous flush mounted fixture from Pottery Barn. The cost was out of my price range so I hoped I would find something equally as beautiful in my search. A while went by, and by a while I mean a few years, and we sort of began to just live with the ceiling fans. Neither worked very well but with a few cheap updates, a good cleaning and spray painting them white, they weren’t as much of an eyesore.

Last summer the light on the fan in the big girls room began to blink wildly when it was on and you could hear a crackling noise. Joe knew he couldn’t figure out the problem without taking the whole fixture down so we cut the power to it and I began to really look for a new light.

My Best Cost Saving Hack!

One day I had the idea to use the Google Lens feature in the Google app to see if I could find something that looked similar to my inspo fixture. Sure enough, I hit the jackpot with this one. OH MY GOODNESS. Look at this thing! So similar but much more budget friendly! Splurge vs. Save. I’m so here for it. I couldn’t order two of them fast enough and we waited for them to ship- they were on backorder at the time.

When they arrived I immediately opened the box and was not all that surprised to see that I would have to install every single crystal piece myself. Maybe this is the price you pay for saving a few hundred dollars. Still worth it. It really didn’t take me that long- you might have seen the process on Instagram (@Emma.Prentiss).

I am so in love with them.

Along the way in my searching of course I came across more than enough runners up. So I put them together in case you’re also on the hunt for the perfect light fixture! I love that they’re all versatile, I could put any one of these in my girls rooms, hallway, or bathroom and it wouldn’t look out of place. I love being able to move things around- Joe might not agree with that idea though.

We moved the girls furniture around a few weeks ago and they are loving it. The switch gave them more room to play and gave Harper this little nook (their rooms have a quirky layout to say the least).

I grabbed this light fixture (it’s actually a set of two!) on Amazon probably a year ago and never got around to finding a place for it, until now. It’s so cute tucked in here. Instead of worrying about having it hardwired or a cord hanging down I just purchased these rechargeable light bulbs. They came in pack of 4 with 2 remotes and I am so impressed with them! She loves dimming the light and reading in there. It’s the cutest and so is she!

The girls are in their stuffed animal, squishy, make my own bed phase. Can’t complain about the last part but I don’t dare move anything once they’ve finished. I helped Audrey with her quilt but the rest was her. Sweet little things. Can’t believe they’re going to be 4 and 8 soon!
