I Survived Whole30.

Which means you can, too, because I’m legit the worst at this kind of stuff.

Let me preface this by saying I am not a fitness blogger, nor am I interested in working out for a living. I throughly enjoy dessert, hot cups of tea, and cheese. I decided to do a round of Whole30 because my sugar cravings were getting wild and I thought a little personal reset would do me good as we enter the season of trips to get ice cream, BBQs, + Margaritas.

Whole30 is best described by googling it because I’m sure I’ll explain it wrong and someone will call me out on that. Let’s save me that.

Day 30 came and went about a week ago and I was already planning my attack meals for Day31. Old habits die hard. Honestly, all I wanted was a cup of tea in the morning and a trip to Starbucks in the afternoon. Caffeine was sorely missed but so was jelly toast.

I don’t have too many wise tips and tricks that you haven’t read before but I’ll share of a few of my go-to’s that I learned along the way:

Primal Kitchen- I can personally attest that the ketchup, Garlic Mayo Aioli, Ranch dressing + Caesar dressing are MUST haves. BYOSD (Bring Your Own Salad Dressing), all day everyday. Those were the most wise words from my friend Jenn before I started. So just get over the embarrassment of a bottle of ketchup in your purse and do it. You’ll be so glad you did! Check Target + Whole Foods for these.

Sweet Potato Chips- now this is a heavily debated topic and I put in a lot of thought before I decided to include them. I needed crunch so I read the labels carefully and went for it. I do not regret this decision.

LaCroix + Unsweetened Tea- One can not survive on water alone. Okay, fine, they can but its SO BORING. I appreciated having these options.

Lara Bars- Search Pinterest for a list of Lara Bars that are Whole30 compliant and you’ll be set! I ate at least 1 each day. Sometimes with a banana as my breakfast and other times as a snack at work when I can’t sit down for a meal. They filled me up enough to get me through the hunger pangs. I didn’t try them all but I really liked Apple Pie + Cinnamon Roll. Do you sense a theme here? #SWEETS.

Next time I will limit the amount of times we go out to eat. It made the struggle that much harder (especially in the first two weeks) because your options tend to be salad or salad. BOOO. I also will plan my timing a little better. I did this through Memorial Day weekend, Joe’s birthday + Father’s Day. ::insert miserable-face emoji here::

Finally, when I stared I was a non-meat eater. I would eat fish on occasion (Sushi, I just cant not quit you!). Around the beginning of week three I was SO hungry and could not stomach another piece of seafood so I made myself a burger (with a lettuce bun, of course). I’m not sure where this will take me moving forward but again, I don’t regret it.

I kept a little list of my favorite dinners that we genuinely enjoyed and have continued to make, so I’ll share that with you soon.

As hard as it was I am SO glad that I did it. And honestly so proud of myself for committing to it and sticking with it. I made a promise to myself on Day1 that I would not quit no matter what and as terrible as it sounds- I often bail on myself first. So this was a major win for me, proof that I can do hard things and commit to myself. Will I do another round in the future? Probably. But first, MARGARITAS!
