Our weekend + a tale of bedtime trouble.

Every weekend should be 3 days. I feel so refreshed and ready to tackle the week! Anyone else?!

Joe didn’t have to work this weekend so we had a day to hang with the kids, a day to rest, and a day to tackle all the nagging little to-dos that have been on my to-do list F O R E V E R. I really want to petition for this to be the norm.

In other news, we have been in serious survival mode with Audrey’s bedtime routine lately. Ever since we moved her into a big girl bed she has seen the amount of freedom that gives her and girlfriend has RAN with it. We will put her to bed at 7:30 and then again 8 more times before she finally gives in and actually goes to sleep. Thankfully once she’s asleep she’s out for the night (so I will not complain too badly because it could be so much worse) but man we are just OVER IT. On a complete random whim I mentioned this to a friend and she suggested doing “check-ins.” LIGHT BULB MOMENT.

A few nights ago we put her to bed and I told her I would be back in a little bit to check on her, but if she got out of bed I wouldn’t come up. insert mind explosion. She didn’t get out of bed. I went in after 5 min. kissed her forehead, rubbed her hair and gave her a little snuggle. I told her I’d be back to check on her in a bit. I did this again two more times (extending the window a little bit each time) and sure enough, she went to sleep. I wanted to kick myself, cry and pop champagne all at the same time but I reserved the celebration to see if it was a fluke. We’re a few nights in and it seems to be working. PRAISE. Let’s hope this continues because it has been SUCH a huge stressor in my day knowing this battle was waiting for me at bedtime. Just goes to show the power of community and asking for help!

xx, Emma
